Having been raised on classic soul food in Mississippi, becoming vegetarian in college left my taste buds longing for more flavor. This was well before plant based diets were prevalent and even a veggie burger was nowhere to be found. And so, much to the chagrin of my Aunt Mattie (shown in photo) I started buying vegetarian cookbooks, finding other vegetarians to share meals and ideas and doing a bunch of experimenting in the kitchen.
I'll be rolling out new recipes, photos, and some live videos of cooking in my tiny kitchen. Be prepared for some modern twists to otherwise traditional soul food favorites. I never intended to leave my soulful roots behind, only to take out the meat, not the flavor!
I've decided to include posts and tips on lifestyle enhancements that are nourishing to the soul, since that qualifies in my book as "soul food." Favorite subjects of mine are the outdoors, as nature is a huge resource in my quest for health and wellness and creating a satisfying life.
